About Soulscape Indonesia

Soulscape Indonesia is a studio that designs private journeys across the archipelago: Bali and the islands beyond, from Komodo and Sumba to Raja Ampat and Papua. Every journey is shaped around the people taking it, by a curator who lives in Indonesia and remains your point of contact from the first message to the final transfer.

We don’t offer ready-made packages, shared group tours or fixed departure dates. First, a conversation. Then, a journey.

How Soulscape began

Soulscape began with something we noticed while helping friends and guests travel through Indonesia: what people remember is rarely the list of places. It is the captain who knew which cove to reach before sunrise, the family who welcomed them into their compound for a ceremony, the dinner in a place no guidebook mentions.

Those things cannot be booked from a catalogue. They come from living here, knowing people by name and being able to ask. For some time the studio worked quietly for a small circle of guests. We now welcome a wider circle of guests, with the same approach: one dedicated curator, from beginning to end.

Who we are

We are a team of curators based in Bali, with partners across the islands where we work: captains, guides, drivers, hotel owners and the local communities who welcome us into their villages and ceremonies. Some of us were born in Indonesia; some of us came and stayed. All of us live here, and that makes the difference. We know the roads in the rainy season, the boats worth trusting and the hotels that are better than their photographs.

Behind the scenes, there are just a few of us. When you write to us, you hear directly from a curator.

What we do

There are two ways to begin your journey. The first begins with one of the itineraries on our website: a route we know well, offered as a starting point and then tailored to your dates, preferred pace, accommodation preferences and who you’re travelling with. The second begins with a blank page: you tell us how you would like the days to feel, and we build the journey from there.

In both cases the journey is private and yours alone. We arrange your accommodation, guides, transfers and domestic flights, with an itemised breakdown of costs in a single proposal.

Our approach

We do not run shared group tours or trips with fixed departure dates. We do not sell standalone excursions or airport transfers on their own. We do not offer discounts, countdown timers or last-minute deals, because we plan journeys around people, not seats to fill. If your request falls outside our expertise, we’ll say so during our first conversation.

How your journey takes shape

A short conversation. By email, WhatsApp or the form on this site. You tell us your dates, who is travelling and what matters to you;we ask a few questions to understand your plans.

An initial proposal within 48 hours. A suggested route, a selection of hotels and an itemised estimate. Nothing is booked at this stage; it’s a starting point for us to refine together.

Refined together. We refine the itinerary around your preferences. You approve every part before we confirm anything. Once you’re happy with the final itinerary, your curator sends a payment link; there is no online checkout.

With you throughout. Your curator is always a message away. We take care of flight delays, changes of plan and individual requests, so you can focus on enjoying your journey.

What you can count on

One curator and one direct point of contact for the whole journey. A proposal that shows what is included, with no unexpected charges. Hotels and boats we know first-hand or that come recommended by people we trust. Honesty about seasons, sea conditions and which places are worth visiting at the time of your trip. And the discretion a private journey deserves: what you tell us stays with us.

Across Indonesia, with Bali as our base. The journeys on this site cover Bali, Komodo, Flores, Sumba, Sumbawa, North Sumatra, Raja Ampat, Papua as well as private yacht journeys between the islands. If you have somewhere else in mind, get in touch — we’ll explore what’s possible.

How we work

How we make it personal

We live here: We live in Indonesia, so our advice comes with a sense of what a day here actually involves. How much time should you allow on the road? Is a particular stop worth the detour? We bring that local perspective to your route, helping you decide where to spend your time and which places to leave for another journey.
One contact: Your curator stays with you from the first conversation to your final transfer. They know how the itinerary came together and which details matter to you. Questions about a hotel or a connection between islands go to the same person, who brings the arrangements together and keeps you informed as plans take shape.
Real people: Rain may change an afternoon’s plans, or you may wake up wanting a quieter day. You can message your curator and talk through the options with someone who knows your itinerary. They help you work out what can be adjusted and coordinate the practical details with the people looking after you.
Chosen partners: Your guide, driver and host each shape a different part of your stay. We choose people we would trust with our own family, drawing on our local network. The choice also depends on your plans: exploring with young children calls for a different approach from a day devoted to photography.
Built around you: We start by asking what you enjoy on holiday and what you would happily skip. Perhaps you love a full day out but want to stay in one hotel for longer. Perhaps slow mornings matter more than sunrise views. Those preferences shape the places you visit, where you stay and how much we put into each day.
Insider access: A local introduction can lead to time with a host in their family home or a visit arranged around a particular interest.
