About Soulscape Indonesia
Soulscape Indonesia is a small studio that designs private journeys across the archipelago: Bali and the islands beyond it, from Komodo and Sumba to Raja Ampat and Papua. Every journey is planned for the people who will take it, by a curator who lives in Indonesia and stays with you from the first message to the last transfer.
We do not sell departures or packages. There are no groups and no fixed dates. There is a conversation, then a journey.
How Soulscape began
Soulscape grew out of a simple observation, made again and again while helping friends and guests travel through Indonesia: what people remember is rarely the list of places. It is the captain who knew which cove to reach before sunrise, the family who opened their compound for a ceremony, the dinner in a place no guidebook mentions.
Those things cannot be booked from a catalogue. They come from living here, knowing people by name and being able to ask. For some time the studio worked quietly for a small circle of guests. It is now open to a wider one, on the same terms: one curator, one journey at a time.
Who we are
We are a family of curators based in Bali, with partners across the islands we work in: captains, guides, drivers, hotel owners and the people who hold the ceremonies and villages we visit. Some of us were born in Indonesia; some of us came and stayed. All of us live here, which is the whole point. We know the roads in the rainy season, the boats worth trusting and the hotels that are better than their photographs.
Behind the scenes we are a small team. When you write to us, a curator answers, not an inbox.
What we do
We design two kinds of journeys. The first begins with one of the journeys in our catalogue: a route we know well, offered as a starting point and then adapted to your dates, pace, hotels and company. The second begins with a blank page: you tell us how you would like the days to feel, and we build the journey from there.
In both cases the journey is private and yours alone. Hotels, guides, transfers and domestic flights are arranged by us and shown in one proposal, line by line. International flights are arranged separately.
What we do not do
We do not run group tours, shared departures or fixed-date trips. We do not sell single excursions or airport transfers on their own. We do not offer discounts, countdowns or last-minute deals, because the journeys are planned around people rather than seats. If what you need is not something we do well, we will say so at the first conversation.
How a journey is built
A short conversation. By email, WhatsApp or the form on this site. You tell us your dates, who is travelling and what matters to you; we ask a few questions back.
A first draft within 48 hours. Where, in what order, which hotels, and an itemised estimate. Nothing is booked yet; it is a draft to react to.
Refined together. The draft changes until it fits. You approve every part before we confirm anything. Once the journey is agreed, your curator sends a payment link; there is no online checkout.
With you on the ground. During the journey your curator is one message away and often nearby. Late flights, changed plans and small requests are handled before they become yours to worry about.
What you can count on
One curator and one number for the whole journey. A proposal that shows what is included, with no lines added later. Hotels and boats we have seen ourselves or know through people we trust. Honesty about seasons, sea conditions and the places that are not worth the effort on your dates. And the discretion a private journey deserves: what you tell us stays with us.

Where we work
All of Indonesia, with Bali as the gateway. The journeys on this site cover Bali, Komodo, Flores, Sumba, Sumbawa, North Sumatra, Raja Ampat, Papua and the sea between them by private yacht. If you have somewhere else in mind, ask; the archipelago is large, and a partner we do not have yet is a partner we will find.

How we make it personal
- We live here
- We live in Indonesia, so our advice comes with a sense of what a day here actually involves. How much time should you allow on the road? Is a particular stop worth the detour? We bring that local perspective to your route, helping you decide where to spend your time and which places to leave for another journey.
- One contact
- Your curator stays with you from the first conversation to your final transfer. They know how the itinerary came together and which details matter to you. Questions about a hotel or a connection between islands go to the same person, who brings the arrangements together and keeps you informed as plans take shape.
- Real people
- Rain may change an afternoon’s plans, or you may wake up wanting a quieter day. You can message your curator and talk through the options with someone who knows your itinerary. They help you work out what can be adjusted and coordinate the practical details with the people looking after you.
- Chosen partners
- Your guide, driver and host each shape a different part of your stay. We choose people we would trust with our own family, drawing on our local network. The choice also depends on your plans: exploring with young children calls for a different approach from a day devoted to photography.
- Built around you
- We start by asking what you enjoy on holiday and what you would happily skip. Perhaps you love a full day out but want to stay in one hotel for longer. Perhaps slow mornings matter more than sunrise views. Those preferences shape the places you visit, where you stay and how much we put into each day.
- Insider access
- A local introduction can lead to time with a host in their family home or a visit arranged around a particular interest. If you would like to understand more about everyday life here, tell us what draws you in. We speak with the people involved to see what they would be happy to share.
